My year so far... - There's something about Mary...

Feb. 7th, 2011 11:07 pm My year so far...

So, what have I been up to in 2011 so far:

The year started with a visit to my Dad's in Orpington over the new year weekend, catching up with him and seeing my sister and her new baby.  So, I am an aunty for the second time, and have been doing all the appropriate aunty things.  It was good to go away for a weekend having spent the last month or so of 2010 so very ill with the pleurisy I had had.

The second weekend in January I whisked Tim away (well, he drove of course) for a weekend in a country cottage the other side of Cheshire.  It was good to have a long weekend just the two of us, after the hectic festive period.  And it provided us with an opportunity to celebrate (albeit rather early) the anniversary of us having been together for 7 years.

The following week was the run up to Sun 16th January, and the exciting Snooker Masters final.  I managed to see most of the snooker matches this year, thanks to the interactive button on BBC2.  And on the Sunday a small group of us gathered in my lounge to watch the final, which was nice.

The next week started with a very yummy dinner with my friends Simon and Chris, and ended with Saturday at Manchester Bi-Fest and coffee the following day with Andrew and Holly (including just the right amount of mutual squee about Doctor Who!).  I should also mention various pleasurable times I have spent with Simon recently, for coffee, and also for black pudding butties.  Nice to spend time with someone who seems to like both black pudding and The Wrath of Khan as much as I do ;-)
(Mental note: need to feed him haggis and see how he reacts to that)

Talking of which, I invited a couple of people round for Haggis etc on Burns night, and we had a most pleasurable evening, ending with me and Kevin talking late into the night while enjoying some rather nice single malt I had splashed out on.
Also went to a great concert with timpootle, celtic harp, by candlelight - lovely - great harpist, and a romantic setting.
That last weekend of January ended on a high when my friend of many years, Mike, took me out for dinner.  I drank rather more than I had intended to, but we had a wonderful time chatting and putting the world to rights.  We have been friends for 20 years me and Mike, so he's like a brother to me and it was really nice to have him to myself for a bit and really let our hair down, so to speak.

This last week I had a few lovely social engagements, but the highlight would have to be QEDCon this weekend.  QED con was the first 'skeptic' event I have been to, and what an event!  It was a cross between a science festival and a sci-fi convention, and worked really well.  The majority of the celebrity speakers I had seen before at science festivals, but that didn't matter.  Probably the best element of the affair was the social side - talking with like minds.  Particularly glad about meeting people that I might otherwise not have met... some of whom I really hope I will get to know much better.

Finished off my weekend with a yummy kebab and watching a movie with doctorstewie - the film about Facebook (can't think of it's title). Had a really lovely time.

And that brings things up-to-date I think.  All in all, a rather good year so far!

Oh, and the weightloss continued after Christmas, and I have lost just over 2 stone in total so far :-)

Do you have much interaction with the anti homeopathy skeptics?

Many of the people I know are anti-homeopathy... why do you ask?

Because I work for a homeopathy organisation and we deal with skeptics all the time so I was just curious. One referred to my boss on his blog as a c word for example.
